What is Mobdro? Kodi Vs. Mobdro & How to Install Mobdro

Kodi vs Mobdro

Mobdro is basically just a stripped down streaming video player with ads that only runs on Android. The main advantage Mobdro has over Kodi is that you don’t need to install extra software (addons) to get access to streams. Additionally, Mobdro’s interface is a lot more intuitive compared to Kodi’s. On the other hand, Kodi is far more flexible and powerful compared to Mobdro.

Head to head comparison

  • Kodi is totally free and doesn’t have ads (at least most addons don’t), but Mobdro does have ads and it’s “freemium”.
  • Mobdro’s ultra simple interface is easier to use than Kodi’s
  • Mobdro only plays video streams, but Kodi can play all kinds of media files.
  • Kodi runs on almost every type of system, but you need special software to run Mobdro on non-Android systems.

Mobdro benefits

Mobdro’s simplified menu and surprising range of content are its most attractive features. A small child could figure out how to use the menu simply by poking at the different circular menu options.

Intuitive menu

As mentioned above, Mobdro’s menu is clearly its strong suit.  You have to click around and flip through pages to use most programs and apps that play streams, but all you have to do to use Mobdro’s system is scroll and point.

Loads of content

Mobdro’s content has a surprising level of variety.  In addition to TV channels and shows, you can also listen to podcasts and watch live animal feeds from zoos around the world.

Stable streams

Kodi’s streams tend to go up and down quite a bit.  However, whatever source that Mobdro is using for its streams is surprisingly stable.  Every time we tried to access a stream on Mobdro, we were able to play it without any problems.

Mobdro downsides

The fact that Mobdro is Android-centric and not on Google Play means that installing it requires a bit of extra work.  Also, it doesn’t look so great on Windows and Mac because you have to use a cumbersome Android emulator to run it.  Additionally, Mobdro’s irritating ads get in the way of the viewing experience.

No Google Play integration

There’s no way access to video streams with a fresh Kodi installation.  You have to download and install additional addons if you want to use Kodi to watch TV or movie streams.  Mobdro, however, is an entirely different ballgame.  Links to streams are available directly on the Mobdro app, which is why it’s not allowed in Google Play.

Google Play has strict rules about streaming:

“You may not use Google Play or any Content in conjunction with any stream-ripping, stream capture or similar software to record or create a copy of any Content that is presented to you in streaming format.” – Google Play Terms of Service

As long as Kodi’s in Google Play and Mobdro remains trapped outside of it, Mobdro is unlikely to become as popular as Kodi is now.  Searching for Mobdro on Google Play brings up nothing but Kodi, Roku and a swarm of spammy apps that sport the Mobdro logo but aren’t the real thing.

No native support for anything but Android

Another obstacle for Mobdro is there is no native version of it for Windows and Mac.  It is possible to get Windows and Mac computers to play Mobdro, but in order to do that you have to use special emulation software to trick your PC or Mac into thinking that it’s a mobile device.

Here’s what Mobdro looks like on the Android emulator called BlueStacks:

BlueStacks is huge and eats up a ton of system memory.  As a result, multitasking while using BlueStacks can sometimes be a painful and frustrating ordeal.

Mobdro has ads

One of the most annoying things about Mobdro is the fact that the program has a lot of ads in it. Kodi fans who aren’t used to seeing any ads at all may be particularly turned off by this.  For example, Mobdro’s main menu has a large banner ad beneath it.

Also, Mobdro streams are periodically interrupted by annoying commercial breaks.  To get rid of the ads, you have to pay money to upgrade to the premium version of Mobdro.
